Sinds begin dit jaar lijken de banken is een strijd gewikkeld om de gunst van de consument. Met name de laatste maand hebben diverse banken hun rente voor 5 en 10 jaar vast verlaagd. Sinds september 2012 is bijvoorbeeld de rente voor 10 jaar vast met 0,4% gedaald. De gehanteerde variabele rente is niet gedaald maar nog steeds lager dan de vaste rente.<\/p>\n<p>Naast concurrentie zijn er verschillende redenen voor aan te dragen voor de verlaging. In vergelijking met het buitenland is de rente in Nederland hoog, maar de verscherpte hypotheekregels die sinds begin dit jaar gelden zorgen er ook voor dat banken minder risico lopen bij het verstrekken van leningen.
